At the start of the story, it is shown that the UnknownWorld, where Bethany Anne and many of her near and dear ones live, is about to go through a change. For more than a thousand years, the world has felt stifled by the strictures of Michael, which are the rules the survivors must follow in death pain. Michael is the most powerful and the first vampire existing in this world. He seems to be equipped with the power that kept the power struggles from affecting the rest of the human race. The power struggles were kept in check by Michael’s power until now. It appears that everything is now going through a change and Michael’s power is not enough to prevent the changes from happening. It is learned that someone has acquired the serum that could help in the making of intelligent Nosferatu. These creatures have the shape of vampires, but are better than them in every aspect. The Nosterafu can not only suck blood from their preys, but also bring significant changes in the power struggle. Michael thought that this serum was lost during the Japan bombing in 1945. And now that it has been found, it is giving sleepless nights to Michael.

The serum is now being used to make another effort in overturning the decrees of Michael. Michael feels that he will not be able to provide any resistance this time because he is very much tired. He has been fighting for the last thousand years, maintaining peace among the Family, the supernaturals, and the Unforsaken. But now, Michael has become world weary and seems all set to sleep for the final time. But, he cannot just let his world destroyed. Therefore, Michael looks to find a way so that he could a make someone else take his place and continue doing his work. And eventually, he comes across Bethany Anne, who shows the will power and desire to cause a difference with her work. Bethany Anne is the General’s daughter. She shows a great character and fears nothing. When Michael approaches her with the offer, Bethany accepts it without realizing that she will not be transformed like the other vampires. However, the problem is that even Michael does not know how he was transformed. Due to this, the understanding of the vampires and the reason behind their creation are completely thrown out of the window. When Bethany Anne will wake up from her sleep, she will find that everything has changed. Nothing remains as it was before and she has to find a way to adjust to the new changes. However, she seems more worried about the changes that are going to take place in the UnknownWorld. Bethany knows she must strive to keep the promises she had made to Michael. If she does not succeed, the whole world will get changed completely and it will become very difficult for them to survive in it any more.

Bethany Anne has begun making a difference with her dedicated efforts right from the first week of her being awake. It is learned that America is losing a lot of good men in the fight against the evil. The primary reason behind this is that they do not have a good Vampire in their team. Frank thinks that the presence of a vampire would help their cause greatly and hopes that Bethany Anne will help them provide one. Later, it is found that the Pack Council of America is suffering from a few internal problems of its own. The dumb and young werewolves of the council feel that they don’t need to follow that strictures laid down by Michael and must ignore them. The Boogeyman’s fear among them begins to recede due to the absence of the ones seeing Michael. Bethany does not see any problem in it as she realizes that she will have to deliver the news personally about the arrival of a new vampire in their town. The events of this book take place immediately after the first book and take the readers on a rollercoaster ride, filled with a lot of action and creative cussing. Bethany Anne is seen forming a team to help her bring about a change in her already changing world.
